With the release ofElden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, FromSoftware has added two notable quality-of-life features for all players in the1.12 update, meant to allow them to better manage their inventory. These are the Recent Items Tab and the new item markers, both meant to highlight additions to a player’s inventory.
It’s almost certain that these new features are meant to accommodate the massive influx of new items, abilities, weapons, and armor sets players are likely to see in the Land of Shadow, which will balloon an already gigantic inventory to truly absurd proportions.

While SotE is definitely the highlight of the recent updates the game has received, the quality of life upgrades accompanying the DLC are nothing to scoff at.
How to Turn On Recent Items Tab & New Item Markers (New Inventory Features)
Open the game’s pause menu by pressing Start on the controller or ESC on the PC.
And that’s it. Both settings are now enabled and ready and players will be able to see new items inElden Ringclearer than ever.
How Does the Recent Items Tab Work in Elden Ring
Once enabled, the Recent Items Tab appears as the veryfirst tab in Inventorywhenever players access that menu. It shows a tab containing the last 100 items obtained by the player in order. The benefit is that if you justpicked up a new weaponand want to see its stats and requirements, instead of trying to find it among your collection of hundreds of other weapons, you’re able to find it extremely easily just by looking at the Recents tab.
Additionally, even if you don’t have the setting enabled, the game tracks everything you obtain and will populate the tab with these entries if you enable the setting later. All acquisitions, including weapons, armor, crafting materials, ashes of war, consumables, and even new tutorials, are listed in the Recent Items tab.
Any new items players pick up will show up at the top left corner of the Recent Items Tab, making it easy to identify and examine. This is particularly useful for miscellaneous items with confusing names likeMiquella’s Great Rune(which is not actually a great rune at all) andFurnace Visage(which sounds like a headpiece but is actually a consumable). No more need for digging through hundreds of items to find the needle in the haystack.
Keep in mind that any time an item is added to the inventory, even if it is not new, it will take up the first spot in the Recent Items Tab, pushing out the 100th at the end of the list. If, for example, players pick up aRowa Fruit, even though they will likely still have this multiples of this item in their inventory already, the entire Rowa Fruit collection will count as a Recent Item and be added to the front of the line.
How Do New Item Markers Work in Elden Ring
If enabled, whenever players obtain something new in the game, asmall yellow exclamation markwill appear on the top left of the item’s icon in the inventory. This means that even if players have the Recent Items Tab setting disabled, they’ll be able to identify new acquisitions at a glance by looking for item markers.
The benefit of this approach is that players who are used to theold way of managing inventorydon’t have to relearn new things and familiarize themselves with an additional tab. Instead, they can keep managing the inventory as they did in the past, just with a quality-of-life update.
The New Item Marker is not permanent. After players hover over it to see item details, it will disappear permanently.
