Summary

Patch 5 of the hit gameBaldur’s Gate 3has arrived. This new patch has fixed various issues and added new content toBaldur’s Gate 3. Patch 5 also introduces a new playable epilogue that allows players to reunite with companions and meet new characters from the game. This new epilogue allows players to discover what the companions have been up to in the past six months since the final battle against the Absolute.

The epilogue makes use of the player’s choices throughout the game, which results in different endings for the companions and characters, such asBaldur’s Gate 3’s Scratch, Volo, and the Owlbear, as well as the different romance endings for the companions. With each companion having at least one good and a bad ending, this is how the epilogue wraps up the main variations of those stories (unless they had unfortunately perished before or after the final battle).

What Each BG3 Companion Has Been Up To Since The Final Battle With The Absolute

Astarion: Hero & Adventurer Or Vampire Ascendant

Spawn Astarion decides to become an adventurer and a hero. He says that he discovered that no one cares about murder if the right people are murdered. There is also a line he says that suggests he’s leading the 7,000 spawn in the Underdark. If he remains a spawn without the player completing his personal quest, then he will admit that he has been hiding in the shadows, feeding on rats, and doing his best to avoid Cazador.

Ascended Astarion has been hosting banquets, soirées, and masquerades at his mansion, which once belonged to Cazador.Baldur’s Gate 3’sAstarionsays his mansion has seen its fair share of hedonism, clandestine deals, and the occasional disappearance.

Gale: Professor of Illusion Magic Or God of Ambition

Gale became a professor at Blackstaff Academy and a teacher in the school of illusion. After he gave the Crown of Karsus to Mystra, she cured him of the orb that had plagued him. However, his students tend to find him intimidating due to his past with the orb, and he lets his students think that the orb is still a threat to help him control his classroom.

If he keeps the Crown for himself, he will reforge it and use it to fuse the magic to himself. With the power of the orb and the crown, Gale gains the use of the Karsite weave, and with Mystra unwilling to relinquish her power over the weave, he decides to claim dominion over another area which he has familiarity with and will becomethe God of Ambition.

Shadowheart: Farmer Or Mother Superior Of A Sharran Cloister

If Shadowheart chooses to reject Shar and join Selune, she reveals that she found an abandoned cottage and has been making it her own. She’s even started adopting a variety of animals such as cats, dogs, a cow, and even a wolf cub, as well as other animals. If her parents are saved from Shar, they will be living with her.

If Shadowheart becomes a Dark Justiciar, she will reveal that she has become the Mother Superior and that her old childhood friend, Nocturne, is her right hand and has become the quartermaster of Shadowheart’s cloister. She does admit that she at times misses her adventures with the player.

Lae’zel: Rebelling Against Vlaakith Or Enslaved By Vlaakith

If Lae’zel chooses to lead or help the Githyanki rebellion against Vlaakith, then for the past six months, she has been training the Knights of the Comet and traveling through Limbo. Lae’zel is currently in the capital city of theGithzeraicalled Shra’kt’lor on a diplomatic mission to secure an alliance with the Githzerai leader Zaerith Menyar-Ag-Gith. If she remains in Faerun, she will have spent her time hunting down Vlaakith’s strongholds on the sword coast.

If Lae’zel remains loyal to Vlaakith, there is an epilogue scene that shows Lae’zel having an audience with Vlaakith and being ascended. However, all the other ascended Githyanki in Vlaakith’s throne room appear to have been drained and are now being used as Vlaakith’s life source. This is certainly an unfortunate and grim fate for Lae’zel.

Wyll: Blade of Avernus & Ranger Or Grand Duke Ravengard

If Wyll loses his warlock powers, he tells the player that he’s not such a bad ranger. If he becomes the Blade of Avernus and is traveling with Karlach, he states that they may have found a way to permanently leave the Infernal Plane. However, he tells the player that Karlach will tell them all about that.

If he doesn’t join Karlach and remains The Blade of Frontiers, he continues going on adventures, being a hero, and saving people. If Wyll still has a pact with Mizora, then not much changes apart from the fact that he is still a warlock instead of becoming a ranger. If he takes the title of Grand Duke, then he helps rebuild Baldur’s Gate alongside his father and Florrick.

Karlach: Finding A Way To Leave Avernus

IfBaldur’s Gate 3’sKarlachreturns to Avernus with Wyll or the player, then they end up finding a map that shows the location of Zariel’s private forge. She currently plans to find the forge in hopes that the blacksmith there will fix her Infernal Engine or build a new one that will allow her to go back to Faerun. Karlach even hints at a romance between her and Wyll.

Halsin: Establishing a New Community in The Shadow Cursed Lands

Halsin has been aiding and helping grow a community in the former Shadow Cursed Lands. He hopes that the area will become a new home for the refugees that lost their homes to the Absolute’s army. Halsin says his new purpose is looking after and caring for the orphaned children. He teaches them, cares for them, and reads them bedtime stories. Halsin had also crafted a wooden duck in his spare time for the player.

Jaheira: Rebuilding Baldur’s Gate

Baldur’s Gate 3’sJaheiradoesn’t go into detail about what she has been up to, but she does say that she has stayed in Baldur’s Gate and has been clearing up the city and rebuilding her Harper network. She does go into detail about what her children have been doing. Her son Jord has joined the Harpers and is planning crop cycles in Wyrm’s Crossing and her daughter Rion has joined the Flaming Fist to help reorganize the craftspeople of Baldur’s Gate.

Minthara: Planning To Reclaim Her House in Menzoberranzan

Unlike the other companions, Minthara says very little about what she has been up to. She says that she has returned to the Underdark as an apostate of Lolth and begins building a rebellion to help reclaim her House inDungeons and Dragons' Menzoberranzan.

Minsc: Protecting Baldur’s Gate From The Criminal Underworld

If the Guild is the primary criminal organization in Baldur’s Gate, then Minsc has been guarding what remains of the final battle with the Absolute. He says that the Nine-Fingers has forbidden anyone from looting the Illithid ships and that he protects the sites even from her.

If the Zhentarim is the primary criminal organization, thenBaldur’s Gate 3’s Minschas been guarding the streets for Jaheira while she is occupied with her Harper duties. However, at some point, Minsc gets on the wrong side of the Zhentarim and has since been living in a cell awaiting execution untilBaldur’s Gate 3’s Withers opens a portal to the reunion party for him.
