Team Cherry’s 2017 MetroidvaniaHollow Knightwas a dark and challenging 2D sidescroller that took the gaming community by storm, and its sequelHollow Knight: Silksonghas been hotly anticipated since its announcement. With a new protagonist and a different bug-infested world to explore,Hollow Knight: Silksongis looking to expand on its predecessor in exciting ways. Although fans have been excited forHollow Knight: Silksongand any scrap of information that Team Cherry has provided, updates have been disappointingly few and far between.
This isn’t the first time that a game has been confirmed, only for the developer to fall silent fairly soon after and fail to keep players in the loop as the development continues across multiple years. Although some gamers are more than happy to wait for developers to properly perfect a game before it gets released, it can still be frustrating to know a title is coming but have little to no updates.Hollow Knight: Silksonghas the dubious honor of joining a list oftitles like the upcomingElder Scrolls 6that have fallen worryingly silent since their announcement.

The Long Wait For Elder Scrolls 6 And Hollow Knight: Silksong
After the runaway success ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, it was hard for players to think how Bethesda could top it. AlthoughSkyrimwas released way back in 2011, it continued to be popular with fans over the years, so there wasn’t an immediate need for a sequel. Bethesda was also busy in the following decade with variousFalloutreleases, as well as itsfirst new IP in over two decades,Starfield. However, it was clear enough time had passed that fans were ready for the nextElder Scrolls, and its official announcement in 2018 was a welcome one.
Since then, news has been incredibly scarce. With only a handful of updates alongside some vague hints thatThe Elder Scrolls 6is still years away, players haven’t had much to go on. This is a similar problem for gamerswaiting patiently forHollow Knight: Silksong. It’s been years since the sequel was announced, and yet players don’t really know much more than they did when Team Cherry first confirmed the upcoming title. Long development cycles aren’t necessarily the problem, but radio silence can lead to frustration and potentially damaging rumors that fill in the space the studio’s lack of communication leaves.

The Story Of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Development
Players want developers to be transparent and honest, and providing semi-regular updates about how a game is progressing is one way to do this - although it can be hard for a plethora of reasons. WhenHollow Knight: Silksongwas announced in 2019, gamers were treated to a trailer and a developer diary video that provided a satisfying dose of information regarding the upcoming game. There was another update soon after, with a better look at some of the newcharacters that players will encounter inHollow Knight: Silksong, and even a playable demo at E3 2019 which boded well for the release.
But since 2019, Team Cherry has been extremely tight-lipped regarding its highly anticipated sequel. Last year provided a little more clarity with a new trailer, some details about platforms it will release on, and confirmation from the developer that things were still progressing, but considering it’s been years since the game was revealed this hasn’t really allayed fan fears.Recent reports suggestHollow Knight: Silksongwill be more than worth the wait, but when games go silent like Team Cherry’s next offering and Bethesda’sElder Scrolls 6, they have a lot to make up for and pretty high expectations to meet when they eventually do come out.
Hollow Knight: Silksongis coming soon to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
