Hogwarts Legacy’s latest update has added animation for the Wendelin the Weird portrait in Hogwarts castle.Hogwarts Legacyfirst released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X this past February, so the portrait has been missing its animation for months.
Since most of the portraits inHogwarts Legacymove and are animated in some way, it’s always been a bit odd for fans that the Wendelin the Weird portrait was immobile. Tucked away in thepatch notes for the latestHogwarts Legacyupdatewas a note that the VFX for the Wendelin the Weird painting were restored. While this is a relatively small change in the grand scheme of things, it’s one that certainly didn’t go unnoticed by theHogwarts Legacycommunity.

Reddit user Chemical-Schedule548 posted a video of Wendelin the Weird’s new animation, with many others chiming in about how they’re happy with this change. Some commenters didn’t even realize that the painting wasn’t animated previously, whereas others have been bothered by it sinceHogwarts Legacy’s initial launch. Those just now starting theirHogwarts Legacyadventure on PS4 and Xbox One will never have to experience a version of the game where Wendelin the Weird isn’t animated, it seems.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions ofHogwarts Legacylaunched on May 5 alongside the game’s big new update. The update made a number of other changes toHogwarts Legacybesides adding VFX to Wendelin the Weird, like squashing various bugs that have been plaguing the game. One of the most notable was anannoyingHogwarts LegacyPS5 bugthat made players' clothes perpetually dirty for no reason.
It’s possible that Avalanche Software has even more updates in store forHogwarts Legacyin the months ahead, but details on what those updates may entail will have to wait for another time. As it stands, fans know thatHogwarts Legacyis coming to Nintendo Switchon July 25, so if a new update is on the way, it seems reasonable to assume that it will come around that time like how this latest update released alongside the PS4 and Xbox One ports.
