Last week’s PlayStation State of Play broughtHarry Potterfans a wealth of information on the upcoming singleplayer adventure gameHogwarts Legacy. From the spells players can use to a look at some of the game’s open-world,Hogwarts Legacyhas a lot to offerHarry Potterfans who are looking for an authentic Hogwarts experience. Until the State of Play reveal,Hogwarts Legacyhadn’t shown much in terms of how the game would play and what it would include. Now though, fans of the Wizarding World have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming title.
Some have even said that there may betoo much content coming toHogwarts Legacy, with worries growing around developer Avalanche spreading itself too thin. Many though, are still very hyped for the upcoming release of the game, especially where theHogwarts Legacy’sstory is concerned. Set long before the events of the books and movies,Hogwarts Legacytakes players to the 1800s, meaning that even old characters like Dumbledore are highly unlikely to appear.

For some fans, this distance from both theHarry PotterandFantastic Beastsfranchises is a good thing, as it will allow an entirely new story to be told. However, this does not mean thatHogwarts Legacywon’t have some nods to famousHarry Pottercharacters. From the snippets of story that were revealed at the State of Play event, viewers were shown the villains of the game. Victor Rookwood is a dark wizard and Ranrok the goblin leads the goblin rebellion. Already, due to Rookwood’s status as a dark wizard, some fans are already connecting him toVoldemort’s Death Eaters.
100 years pass between the time ofHogwarts Legacyand the mainHarry Potterbooks though, so some are questioning how Voldemort can fit into this story. It’s highly unlikely Voldemort will appear physically inHogwarts Legacy, though many are connecting Victor Rookwood to one of the former’s Death Eaters, known as Augustus Rookwood. Augustus only appears briefly in the mainHarry Potterstory, though many believe that the shared surname will connect the villain inHogwarts Legacyto the mainHarry Potterstory and Voldemort.
Besides dark wizards appearing inHogwarts Legacy, the game has other ways of letting players dabble with the dark side of magic. Among the many spells available in the new title, some were surprised to see that dark magic spells, such as the killing curse, being available for players to use. While it does offer freedom for the player, many believeallowing dark magic should come at a cost for players inHogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacywill launch holiday 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
