Hardcore characters are never really out of danger as oneDiablo 4player proves that even the smallest of enemies can abruptly end a run, even at extremely high levels. While Diablo 4 saw plenty of praise from both critics and players at launch, there were certainly no shortage of growing pains to work through. While players have some issues with the core parts of the game, includingtheDiablo 4microtransaction store, server based issues cropped up on occasion, keeping players from being able to log in at all.
However, hardcore players seemed to suffer some of the worst issues during the first few weeks. Considering that hardcore characters can’t be respawned upon death, players need to be extra careful or else see their runs end early. Unfortunately for some players, the first few weeks of the game saw a rise inDiablo 4Hardcore character deaths due to server disconnectsor even lag, a frustrating experience as it’s something that players can’t account for or even prevent. While Blizzard worked to correct these particular issues, some players may have been a little too confident or perhaps taken an enemy for granted.

The latest example comes from aDiablo 4subReddit user named trivialzeros, whose post title really says it all. Showing the death screen for their hardcore Necromancer, trivialzeros made it to level 99 and after nearly 84 hours of playtime, they were taken out by a common Quillrat. Providing a bit of context, trivialzeros said they wereattempting a Tier 100 nightmare dungeonin an effort to get their bone spear Necro to level 100. Unfortunately for them, it was around 1am, and they were feeling a bit tired, forgetting that quillrat poison not only has extreme range, but the potency of its poisons can quickly take down players who can’t pop an elixir fast enough.
Naturally, the community had some fun with this admission as the post quickly gained steam in theDiablo 4subreddit. Many attempted to provide insight into what the quillrat would be telling its friends, taking down what would be a boss level character for them. In addition to plenty of quillrat puns, trivialzeros responded to another user saying they had fun with their character and even provided some insights into the abilities and gear they were using at the time.
Season 1 is currently ongoing inside ofDiablo 4, though it didn’t get off to the best start either. A massive update that launched alongside the first season was largely panned by the community, prompting a quick response and follow up by Blizzard. While numerous elements of the update have been reverted, Blizzard developers have been hosting fireside chat streams, answering community concerns and revealing how they plan to fix the current problems.
