For some longtime fans of the series, it might be hard to believe thatHalois over two decades old. In that time, theHalofranchise has reached some truly incredible heights, with most major games in the series serving as some of the most influential first-person shooters ever made. Though, every so often, something will occur within one of the olderHaloentries that shows the age of the franchise.
One of the biggest problems found within some of the earlierHaloinstallments is the checkpoint system. Typically, how checkpoints work inHalois the player will cross a particular threshold within the level, and if the player dies past that point, they will respawn within that same checkpoint area. However, this can sometimes lead to some irritating problems. For instance, oneHalo 3player got caught in a checkpoint loopafter boarding a covenant ship they weren’t supposed to be on. Now, another player recently got caught in a similar bind.

Over on Reddit, a user named PugOverload posted gameplay footage fromHalo 3that shows them driving a warthog off a cliff, but just as the player is about to die, a checkpoint registered. The game then proceeded to load the player into the checkpoint just before the player dies, to which the player continually respawns and dies over and over.
Assumedly,Bungieincluded a workaround, should the player encounter an issue like this where they get caught in a checkpoint loop and continues to die in succession. Eventually, the game should reload the player into the checkpoint right before the one the player cleared, but that would likely involve having the player die an indeterminate amount of times before the game finally recognizes that problem.
It’s odd how problems like this continue to persist within theHaloseries. Even in some of the more recent entries in the franchise, likeHalo 5andHalo Infinite, players have, upon occasion, run into the checkpoint loop issue. Given the open-ended nature ofHalo’slevel design, it does, admittedly, seem like a difficult problem to fix, especially if checkpoints are located near cliffs and other hazardous areas.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what other content 343 Industries will add toHalo Infinitein the months to come. The studio recently announced a co-op option for the campaign mode, and the release of Forge mode shouldn’t be too far behind that. In addition, there will likely be a litany of new maps and multiplayerHalocontent added in the future.
Halo 3is available to play on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
