A thoroughly challenging game in which every enemy has a good chance of killing the player,Helldivers 2requires players to think strategically, especially on its higher difficulty levels. A player’s strategy will cover a slew of different aspects inHelldivers 2, ranging from the Stratagems and Boosters teammates bring with them to battle, to knowing the perfect moment to deploy them. Naturally, weapons are an incredibly important part ofHelldivers 2’s gameplay, and the best in the game aren’t just those that deal the most damage, but the ones that have good ammo, good stats, and good utility.
Some of the best weapons inHelldivers 2come from the game’s Premium Warbond battle passes, which players can either pay real-world cash for or earn in-game by finding Super Credits while on a mission. So far, each ofHelldivers 2’s Premium Warbondshas had at least one great primary weapon, but their secondary weapons haven’t had as much luck, often feeling like a bit of an afterthought. That is untilHelldivers 2released the GP-31 Grenade Pistol.

Helldivers 2’s Sidearms Have Been a Mixed Bag
Generally speaking,Helldivers 2’s sidearms have varied in quality quite a bit. In its free Mobilize Warbond,Helldivers 2gave players two simple yet decently effective sidearms, the P-2 Peacemaker and the P-19 Redeemer. Then, inHelldivers 2’s first paid Premium Warbond, players were given one new secondary weapon, the P-4 Senator, a revolver that wasn’t too effective, but sure looked and felt cool to use. But thenHelldivers 2’s Cutting Edge Warbonddropped, debuting one of the worst sidearms in the game, the LAS-7 Dagger, a laser pistol that had laughably bad damage and an absurdly lengthy cooldown.
The latest secondary weapon to come toHelldivers 2was the Polar Patriots Warbond’s P-113 Verdict, a simple-looking high-calibre pistol.
Helldivers 2’s GP-31 Grenade Pistol Has Broken the Mold
On the whole,Helldivers 2had a mixed line-up of secondary weapons, many of which weren’t actually all that useful in battle, even as a last resort. But that all changed withHelldivers 2’s GP-31 Grenade Pistol. Released as part ofHelldivers 2’s Democratic Detonation Warbond, the GP-31 Grenade Pistol was the first truly effective secondary weapon to be added to the game, not just capable of dishing out some impressive damage in a pinch, but also being a useful tool for many of the game’s objectives.
When facing off againstHelldivers 2’s Terminids or Automatons, players will often encounter some kind of structure that needs to be blown up, whether it’s a bug nest or a robot factory. These structures can be destroyed via Stratagems, but the most resource-effective method is lobbing a grenade down them.
Much like weapon ammo, however, grenades are an extremely limited resource inHelldivers 2, and teams can easily be put on the back foot if they run out of them mid-mission and can’t call in a Resupply right away. But with the GP-31 Grenade Pistol, players have immediate access to at least another four grenades, or nine if they have the Hellpod Space Optimization booster equipped.
TheGP-31 Grenade PistolisHelldivers 2’s first genuinely useful secondary weapon, and it would be great to see it start a new trend where future Warbonds contain a secondary weapon that has some kind of unique utility. For instance, it would be great to see some kind of Stim pistol come toHelldivers 2, allowing players to heal their allies at a safe distance.
