Sugimoto Saichi is the main character of theGolden Kamuyanimeseries. He is a veteran of the Russo-Japanese War who, after coming home, decides to find a way to make money for himself. Sugimoto learns of the lost Ainu riches and the 24 Abashiri criminals who have the maps leading to the wealth tattooed on their skin while he is on his way to making money.
Sugimoto must approach the prisoners head-on in order to obtain the tattooed blueprints from their skins. But because they are all criminals, they are all talented and deadly in their own ways. The more disturbed characters intheGolden Kamuyseriesare responsible for unspeakable atrocities.

7Tatsuuma Ushiyama: Murdering His Judo Master & Injuring 10 Students
Tatsuuma Ushiyama is a dangerously ambitious judo master who has a history of success. He engages in combat with skill and is an integral part of Hijikata’s group, giving them tactical tips on how to best their rivals and secure the prisoners' tattoos.

When Ushiyama goes without sex for an extended period of time, he develops an uncontrolled desire that can escalate into violence. When his master found out that Tatsuuma Ushiyama had slept with his wife, he gathered ten of his students to beat him up and put him in Abashiri prison. Ushiyama defied his master and murdered him after becoming undefeated in judo for the most part.
6Mutsuo Tsuyama: Murdering 33 People
Although Mutsuo Tsuyama is suggested to be a very dangerous person intheGolden Kamuyanime series, he is never shown actively threatening anyone on screen. After evading capture in Abashiri, Mutsuo ran upon First Lieutenant Tsurumi, the renegade leader of the Hokkaido 7th Division’s rogue unit. However, Mutsuo was able to kill three of First Lieutenant Tsurumi’s men before he could kill him.
Mutsuo was a deadly criminal who had been incarcerated in Abashiri forkilling 33 people. Furthermore, another Abashiri convict known as Escape King named Shiraishi said he’d rather not associate with him; this tells viewers even more about his notoriety.

5Toshizou Hijikata: Political Prisoner
Even in his advanced years, Toshizou Hijikata exudes vitality and determination. Hijikata, having escaped from prison, leads his fellow talented prisoners to achieve his aim of becoming an Ainu god. Hijikata is respected and tough despite his advanced age; he leads strong, ruthless prisoners like Tatsuuma Ushiyama.
Toshizou Hijikata, former deputy leader of the Shinsengumi, is still savage in his old age. Hijikata, a high-ranking member of the Shinsengumi who was captured after their defeat at Hakodate, is now a political prisoner. Hijikata may be ancient, but he is still very powerful and dangerous. He’s a skilled swordsman who fights with a katana and a rifle.

4Waichirou Sekiya: Murdered 30 People By Poisoning
After being trapped in a lightning accident with his daughter, Sekiya became a crazed believer in fortune. Sekiya survived the disaster, but his daughter did not. He has pondered the nature of luck and God’s existence ever since.
Sekiya started poisoning people at random while he thought about luck. He thought that only unlucky people would get sick from his poison. Despite his feeble body, Sekiya still poses a threat to those around him by forcing them, through extortion or trickery, to consume deadly chemicals with increasing degrees of fatality.

3Kazuo Henmi: Serial Murder; Death Toll Exceeding 100 People
Kazuo Henmi grew up in Shimotsuke Province with his younger brother,who was later killedand eaten by a bear. While most people would be frightened by witnessing something like this, the prospect of going through what his younger brother did before he died actually gets him aroused.

From then on, murder became as normal to Henmi as breathing. Henmi was able to murder his victims because of his charming personality. He became addicted to the thrill of murder and killed over 100 individuals ina serial killing spree. His need to kill sets him apart from the other Abashiri prisoners, even though he isn’t the strongest among them.
2Ueji Keiji: Child Murder
Ueji Keiji had enormous expectations placed on him as a result of growing up in a respectable family with a prestigious father. The pressure on Keiji was magnified by the fact that everyone he knew kept telling him not to let his father down and to do at least as well as his father.
Keiji gave in to the constant stress and strain and began to crave the disappointed expressions of others. Keiji’s entire life purpose became finding ways to let other people down, and he deliberately botched his part of the tattoo so that others seeking it would be let down. For kidnapping, murdering, and burying children in his garden, Keiji was sentenced to life in Abashiri Prison.

1Kano Lenaga: Murder Of Her Patients
Kano Lenaga decided to change her gender after being born a boy in Mikava Province. Her extraordinary medical prowess allowed her to keep her youthful appearance, which she used to captivate numerous men.
Lenaga’s secret youth-preserving mechanism was eventually exposed. She was skilled in a method analogous to the traditional Chinese healing diet, in which patients are instructed to consume the portion of an animal corresponding to the area of their own body that is ailing. Lenaga ate her patients to get at the portions of their bodies that she coveted. Lenaga was incarcerated in Abashirifor torturing and eating her patientsbecause she was obsessed with how she looked.
