Many live service games have begun charging players for Battle Passes, packages containing a selection of in-game rewards for a given title that must still be unlocked through gameplay.Genshin Impactis no exception, featuring two paid Battle Passes as well as a recurring in-game Battle Pass event. One might think that the paid Battle Passes would be superior, but it appears thatGenshin Impactfans who bought their Battle Pass on PlayStation will have an extra obstacle in their path: the removal of cross-save support for the Battle Pass in Update 2.4.
Cross-save support was added toGenshin Impactas part of Update 2.0, which also added a number of other important features to the game. When cross-save support is functioning correctly, players are able to access their game across platforms–which includes unlocking Battle Pass rewards. However, a number ofGenshin Impactplayers have recently discovered an unexpected change that throws a wrench into this.

Apparently,Genshin Impactplayers who bought a Battle Pass on PlayStation are no longer able tounlock Battle Pass rewardson any other console. Twitter user Genshin Impact Guides shared a video slightly over one minute long that puts a spotlight on what, exactly, this change means. According to the video, players who used to play the game on PlayStation have to buy items on PlayStation. The lack of cross-save support for Battle Passes means that these players can only unlock Battle Pass rewards on PlayStation, which could be quite an inconvenience.
In the video, the player is clearly shown trying to redeem rewards from the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass package, which adds a second tier for the current BP Period as well as an extra reward at BP Lv. 30. The player is able to meet the requirements to unlock a reward but is unable to redeem it. Imran Khan, News Editor at Fanbyte Media, commented on the affair on his verified Twitter account. He stated thatSony appeared to be fighting a war against cross-playfor some reason, as PC and Mobile cross-play is still working fine.
According to Imran Khan, the change is almost certainly a deliberate one demanded by Sony that the game awkwardly worked around. However, since Sony already received the money when gamers purchased the Battle Pass to begin with, there doesn’t seem to be much point in demanding they also redeem rewards on PlayStation. It remains to be seen how the upcomingNintendo Switch version ofGenshin Impactwill interact with cross-play functionality.
Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
