Summary
Genshin Impacthas come a long way in the game’s four-year life cycle of regular updates, notably introducing new characters and difficult endgame content. Yet while the game’s combat has been taken to new heights in recent years, there are plenty of old characters inGenshin Impactwho haven’t aged well in regards to their combat effectiveness.
Consequently, reworking characters could be the only chance they have of competing with thecurrent meta characters inGenshin Impact. On the other hand, though, this slippery slope could have lasting implications on the game’s difficulty balancing.

Should Genshin Impact Rework Characters?
Arguments For Character Reworks
Considering that certaincharacters inGenshin Impactsuffer from power creep, reworking these characters would arguably be a well-deserved change. This mostly applies to some of the earliest characters inGenshin Impact’s roster, though any character whose Talents don’t scale with one of their character stats is bound to eventually suffer from power creep.
‘Power Creep’ refers to characters losing their effectiveness over time due to a combination of general difficulty increases and being outperformed by newer characters. At an extreme, power-crept characters eventually become unusable in the latest challenging endgame content.

Ideally, one of the best things to come out of reworking some of the categorically underperforming characters inGenshin Impactwould be that these characters could potentially be viable in endgame content like the Spiral Abyss, or theupcoming Imaginarium Theater inGenshin Impact. For players who have a relatively limited number of characters, especially new and F2P players, this could eliminate a huge barrier to entry and makeGenshin Impact’s endgame content more accessible so that a wider audience could experience this content and start gathering the rewards from it.
Arguments Against Character Reworks
Despite power creep resulting in certain characters inGenshin Impactgenerally being unreliable in endgame content, players may have grown attached to these nostalgic characters that have been available for several years regardless. Consequently, some players might have even managed to still create powerful builds for theseGenshin Impactcharacters that outdo any of the lasting effects of power creep. So for these players, reworking old characters might come at the cost of undoing any of the work they invested in their characters, which would likely lead to backlash.
For this reason, ifGenshin Impactreworks older characters, the character’s original kit should remain available. This could allow players the opportunity to keep any character upgrade materials, artifacts, and weapons for these characters, ultimately preserving their existing builds. Not to mention, some of the builds that players have created for these power-crept characters may just prove to be better than what an official rework could provide. Character reworks might be an unwelcome, controversial change toGenshin Impact.

In general, the main reason to rework characters is to lower the difficulty ofGenshin Impact’s endgame content, though this is a slippery slope. Currently, the difficulty ofGenshin Impact’s combat incentivizes smart team compositionand character builds. So, with the right team compositions, players already have all the tools they need to tackleGenshin Impact’s difficulty with ease. After all, no two characters inGenshin Impactare alike, hence why some characters continue to remain in the meta, while others are typically a liability in endgame content. Consequently, while loweringGenshin Impact’s difficulty could prove to be a welcome change for the sake of accessibility, reworking old characters could have lasting balancing implications in the game.
