One gamer has made a nostalgic discovery while shopping at a drugstore in Alabama. The gaming industry is currently in its ninth generation of hardware, with Sony promoting its PlayStation 5 console and Xbox selling both the Xbox Series X and theweaker Xbox Series S. Nintendo has found itself somewhat between the eighth and ninth generation consoles with its home console/handheld hybrid the Nintendo Switch. Regardless, it’s safe to say the vast majority of gaming hardware on retail shelves these days are for the newest consoles.

While there’s still product available for older PlayStation andXbox consoleslike the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s a rare thing to see accessories for anything older on store shelves outside of retro gaming shops. In most cases, many gamers may need to shop online if they hope to find accessories for their legacy platforms.

That’s why it was such a rare find for Reddit user EvilCharizard to walk into a drugstore in Alabama and find some retro gaming accessories readily available for purchase. The shelf included MadCatz brand memory cards for both the original Xbox andoriginal PlayStation consoles, plus a third-party “Trick” Xbox controller that touts itself as the “World’s 1st Combo Cheat Controller.” The packaging appears to be somewhat sun damaged, underscoring the products' age.

There are some new versions of accessories like memory cards and controllers made for old-school consoles that one can purchase today, but that doesn’t apply here. The originalMadCatz filed for bankruptcyyears ago, and the logo seen on these boxes are from the company’s 2000s-era operations. Unfortunately, with the PS1 and Xbox consoles so incredibly outdated, it seems unlikely that the drugstore will be able to move the merchandise anytime soon, even with the PS1 memory card priced at just $5.

The MadCatzPS1 memory cardis actually a steal when comparing it to similar products online that cost 2-3x more than what the drugstore is selling it for. The Xbox memory card price is comparable to the online prices, however. The Xbox Trick controller is priced at $24.99 at the drugstore, and that price is about the same as the online listings as well.

In any case, gamers looking for retro accessories may want to start checking out locally-owned drugstores.Second-hand stores like Goodwillare also great places to visit when looking for retro gaming products, so interested buyers should keep an eye out.
