Square Enix announced a new entry in its RPG seriesDragon Quest Monstersis currently in development for the Nintendo Switch. Square Enix, the renowned studio known for its RPG franchises likeFinal Fantasy,Kingdom Hearts, andDragon Quest, has plans to set players off on another adventure in celebration ofDragon Quest Monsters' 25th anniversary.

TheNintendo Switch is home to some of the best turn-based RPGs, including titles from theDragon Questfranchise. TheDragon Quest Monstersseries is a spin-off ofDragon Quest. Unlike the mainline games,Dragon Quest Monstersgames arePokemon-like. Players capture, breed, and battle with their monsters. The Nintendo Switch does not have anyDragon Quest Monsterstitles in its library other thanDragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland RETRO, which was released only in Japan in 2019. Square Enix’s recent announcement will change that.

Square Enix celebrated the 25th anniversary ofDragon Quest Monsterswith an official trailer showcasing footage fromDragon Quest Monsterstitles, including a clip from one of its remakes for the Nintendo 3DS that wasnever released outside of Japan. The end of the trailer teases a new game with “so get ready for a new adventure” and announces that aDragon Quest Monsterstitle is in development for the Nintendo Switch. No other new information has yet to be announced other than the trailer and its 25th-anniversary artwork.

Square Enix looks to be working hard with how many titles it is currently developing such asFinal Fantasy 16, its upcomingSplatoon-like shooterFoamstars, andDragon Quest 3’s HD-2D Remakethat is currently in development. From classic titles and retro remakes to modern mainline games and spin-offs there are plenty of games forDragon Questfans, new and old, with varying tastes to play on the Nintendo Switch. There is one highly anticipated title in particular that fans are eager to play.

WhileDragon Questfans have another title in theDragon Questseries to look forward to, they are still speculating when more information about the long-awaitedDragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fatewill be announced. Thedevelopers' silence onDragon Quest 12has been concerningto fans who have been waiting since 2021 for more information.
