As the months pass afterDoom Eternal’s launch on consoles and PC, Switch players are still awaiting a port. The bad news is that no release date has been announced, but the good news is that it will be revealed soon.

Developer id Software has confirmed that while no firm release date is in place for the Switch port ofDoom Eternal, that news should be coming soon. During the recent panel at Gamelab Live 2020,  id Software’s Marty Stratton gave an update on the anticipated third-party Switch release.

Stratton confirmed that there is nothing new to announce with regards to a launch, but noted “we’ll be talking about the release date pretty soon.” This news comes four months since the March 20 launch ofDoom Eternalon PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It was recently revealed that the March 2020 release, itself a delay from 2019, was due to thenegative reception ofFallout 76.

Stratton went on to speak of the developer handling the port and noted the quality players can expect for the Doom Slayer’s return to a Nintendo platform. Stratton assured fans that developer Panic Button, who handled the port ofDoom 2016and most of Bethesda’s Switch ports, are capable of doing this version justice. Stratton referred to the developer as “masters of the platform” and assured those awaiting the Switch version that it will be worth it. Stratton did not confirm if the physical version ofDoom Eternalwill feature adownload code like the port ofWolfenstein: Youngblood.

Recent Switch ports have been something of a gamble in terms of quality. The Outer Worlds' Switch port released last monthto significant criticism due to graphical and technical issues. Despite some rough third party launches, Bethesda continues to have the more consistent quality of ports. Panic Button has handled the majority of Bethesda’s porting efforts to the Switch to positive reception. Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines acknowledgedsuccess with the publisher’s Switch portsand promised more to come.

In the interim between the initial launch and the coming Switch port,Doom Eternalhas had its ups and downs. A noticeable botch came through a PC update that added the Denuvo anti-cheat measure. The reception was so negative by the fanbase that an update was quickly released toremove Denuvo from the game.

Doom Eternalis available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. The Switch port currently in development.
