This week’s Nightfall activity inDestiny 2puts players back in a Battlegrounds mission on the moon, but players are having a painful time with it – particularly those attempting Grandmaster runs of the activity this week. Grandmaster Nightfalls have always posed one of the biggest challenges offered byDestiny 2, and while these endgame-level activities are meant to be difficult, the mechanics adapted from Battlegrounds activities only make for an experience that’s not only frustrating, but plain unfair according to fans.
For most ofDestiny 2’s long lifespan, Nightfall strikes have been exactly that: strikes. Though Nightfall activities are a step-up in difficulty and offer better loot for players seeking the challenge, they’ve almost always been harder versions of strike activities that were specifically designed to be focused, three-player PvE missions, which also accommodate a range of difficulty levels. While similar in many aspects,Destiny 2’s Battlegrounds activitiesgenerally follow a completely different formula compared to the game’s strikes. While Battlegrounds are usually made for three players as well, they are almost always introduced as seasonal activities, and are typically a lot more generous with respawns while providing a chaotic environment with a high enemy density.

As it turns out, applying Grandmaster-level difficulty to a Battlegrounds activity that involves rooms with infinitely-spawning enemies makes for an experience that replaces any semblance of challenge with tediousness instead. That said, it’s no surprise thattheDestiny 2community has been quite vocal in its complaintsregarding this week’s Nightfall, which is the Season of the Risen’s PsiOps Battlegrounds mission on the moon. One fan under the name Doomestos1 on Reddit summarizes many of the community’s gripes in a post on the site, describing the current Nightfall as a “tedious nightmare” due largely to the constant adds and the time it takes to get through each section as a result.
Another big problem with the current Nightfall seems to be the boss itself along with the projections of Savathun, as her Arc lightning attack is fully capable of one-hitting players even when they’re hidden in cover. This is due to aninfamous and exceptionally long-time bug inDestiny 2which causes enemy damage output to be related to frame rate, with higher frame rates resulting in fast or instant deaths for Guardians in some circumstances.
This isn’t even the first time Bungie hasreused a Battlegrounds activity as a Nightfall activity inDestiny 2, with a certain Battlegrounds mission on Mars garnering a similar if not greater round of criticism from fans when it was live earlier this year. Unfortunately, it appears much of that criticism wasn’t heeded by the developers, as players are finding themselves facing many of the same issues once again with this week’s Nightfall on the moon.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
