[SPOILER WARNING FOR DESTINY 2 SEASON OF DEFIANCE]Loss is nothing new in the world ofDestiny 2as players have seen several notable characters come and go over the years, and with a fan favorite saying goodbye in Season of Defiance, a new monument is now available to find in the Tower for players to visit. It is the latest in a season that has been met with more positive feedback for its narrative thanLightfall’s campaignhas been following its release. While it remains to be seen where this latest loss will lead the remaining Vanguard, the Tower’s newest monument reflects the love the game’s community has for the character in question.
Season of Defiance’s story has continued on from the events ofLightfall, depicting the war at home for the denizens of the Last City against The Witness' forces on Earth.Destiny 2mainstays Amanda Holliday, Devrim Kay, Mithrax, Crow, and Mara Sov led the charge this season as players worked to push back The Witness' forces and rescue prisoners taken by The Shadow Legion all over the EDZ and Cosmodrome. While the team’s rescue efforts have been successful, it also saw Amanda Holliday sacrifice her life to ensure Mithrax could rescue prisoners from a Shadow Legion prisoner camp set to self-destruct as a result of the rescue mission.

The loss of Amanda Holliday hit both the Tower andDestiny 2community hard as the Vanguard’s chief shipwright had been a constant presence there since players first met her way back in the firstDestiny. Following her sacrifice, players got to witness a small memorial service involving Crow, Mara, and Zavala, adding even more emotion to the scene due to the loss of Zavala’s voice actorLance Reddick. In regard to the loss of Holliday, Reddit user DJToad was among the first to share Bungie’s own tribute to the late shipwright placed where Holliday could be previously found inside the Tower’s hanger.
Holliday’s monument in the Tower is akin to the monument Bungie added forCayde-6in the main courtyard, located by the Ironwood Tree where players can advance to the next guardian rank after completing all tasks in their current rank. While Cayde’s monument was a bust of the Exo hunter’s head, Holliday is fittingly remembered with a bust of an Arcadia-Class Jumpship given it has served as the “poster-ship” of the franchise. The remaining area around the monument has been tarped off, indicating no one else will be occupying the space following Holliday’s death.
While the memorial has been welcomed by many players online, it remains to be seen how deep the loss of Amanda Holliday will hit the other characters she was close with. Crow, in particular, was hit hard by Holliday’s sacrifice and made his intent to seek vengeance, with players' aid, against The Shadow Legion clear during her memorial service. As of this writing, Crow’s wrath has yet to be seen or felt in the narrative, but there is still plenty of season left beforeSeason of the Deepbegins for Crow to complete his vengeful goals.
