Summary

Destiny 2’s devs are teasing the episodic content for 2025 again, and it seems to indicate that the Year 11 of content might explore beyond the solar system. With The Witness defeated,Destiny 2now has a bunch of stories to focus on, as the devs can now introduce new storylines, conclude unresolved plots, and explore new worlds. From the looks of it, the developers are indeed focusing on all those options as they look forward to the future of the game and the franchise.

Bungie’s previous tease revealed the plans forDestiny 2’s episodic content plansfor the year. The episodes Echoes and Revenant will keep the players busy for the rest of the year, concluding Year 10 of content. Heresy, the third episode after The Final Shape expansion, will release in February 2025, marking the end of Year 10 of content. Beyond Heresy, the devs have left a major tease for next year’s content, which is titled Codename Frontiers for now. Though the details are not yet disclosed, it’s safe to assume that something big is coming forDestiny 2fans which is worth teasing.

As part of that development, a couple of devs from Bungie recently teased Codename Frontiers againin an interview with GamesRadar+. WithThe Final Shape setting the stage forDestiny 2’s future, the devs are now planning on expanding the universe with new worlds. Although the details they disclosed are as small and vague as the previous teaser, this expansion into new worlds definitely hints that players will be able to explore worlds beyond the solar system. On top of that, in the interview,Destiny 2’s Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens says that he shouldn’t get into more details, which only fuels the idea of worlds beyond the solar system.

“A lot of that thinking about year 11, and how we start really getting into the next journey here after these Episodes, we’re going to be leaning on that thinking as well. Because we’ve been doing this linear thing for a while now, and we want to get back to expanding our worlds and world-building, expanding the universe of Destiny in general. And I think that’s as much as I should probably say about it.”

Destiny 2 Is Now Trying To Improve the Game Further

With ongoing updates and content development, Bungie is making sure that players realize that the game’s journey isn’t over just because the ultimate antagonist is defeated. Recently,Destiny 2’s update 8.0.0.5was released, where the devs fixed a massive number of bugs and enhanced weapon mechanics. The update has brought the Pathfinder system back, but it will now work a lot better than the previous version of this system. With the new system, players will always have a path that can be completed without switching between PvP and PvE.

The devs are also catering to long-term players, which is evident with thereturn ofDestiny 2’s Grandmaster Nightfalls. These endgame activities are only for the high-ranked and most powerful Guardians, who can defeat the enemies with extremely high HP. These updates and content development do indicate that the devs are trying very hard to keep the players engaged, and it is working out for both parties. The recent teases also indicate that players can expect exciting content updates forDestiny 2in 2025.
