Destiny 2is approaching the beginning of its sixth year since launch, and many things have changed over the years with the clear goal in mind to make it the best game it can be. Bungie’s quest for improvement particularly shows in modernexpansions andDestiny 2Seasonsdue to the renewed approach to build-crafting and accessibility, while also reworking core aspects of the game and improving the storytelling even more. This is not to say thatDestiny 2is now perfect, and the looter shooter still has a long way to go, but the state of everything is much better than it was in the past.
Still, there is a recurring problem thatDestiny 2has been dealing with since its release, and that’s how Bungie has to deal with space – or lack thereof. What this means is that there are many areas of the game where having more space to store things or to allow things to exist would make for a huge improvement overall, increasing the quality of life for players. This entails things like Vault space, the Postmaster system, Engram slots, inventory slots, the Destiny Content Vault, and much more.

Why Destiny 2 Needs to Overcome Space-Related Issues With Lightfall
This is a recurring problem inDestiny 2’s internal economy that Bungie hasn’t successfully fixed in years, despite a couple of tries, and it mainly concerns “blues,” as in, Rare gear. The game will often flood players with blue gear, which is basically the highest rarity of items after bothLegendaries and Exotics, and this happens at all times, across all activities. This fills up the inventory and forces players to manually dismantle blues, as not doing so between activities means that players won’t have space in their inventory, and then “lost” items go to the Postmaster, who only has 21 slots for anything.
The problem is that the Postmaster doesn’t keep the players' most valuable items when the storage space is full, and instead, new items override the oldest item in the Postmaster, which can be anything regardless of rarity. Many currencies likeAscendant Shardsand Ascendant Alloys are capped to unrealistic values, and players who want to get more have to rely on their presence in the Postmaster’s inventory, where they go when the stacks in the players' inventory are full. This can lead to these items being automatically deleted ifDestiny 2players are not extra careful when tackling activities where multiple blues can stack up quickly, such as Dungeons, Raids, and Nightfalls.
Then there’s theVault space issue, which is capped at 600 even though Bungie adds new weapons, armor pieces, and Exotics every Season and every expansion. This is not sustainable for players who like to have their weapons and armor pieces stored for future use, as deleting those items will mean that if the need arises, they will need to farm them from scratch. Although Bungie did raise the cap forDestiny 2’s Vault space up to 600 this Season, this is not the best solution moving forward, considering that every new Season consistently adds 20 to 30 more items.
Destiny 2’s space problem also affects how many activities and locations can be in the game at the same time, as this eventually impacts the overall performance across all platforms, hence why theDestiny Content Vault exists. Lastly, players can only hold 10 Engrams in their inventory, which don’t stack in case they are the same Engram at the same Power Level as another. This leads once again to additional Engrams going to the Postmaster when the inventory is full, in turn creating more problems with what players can effectively store and what they can’t. It’s hard to say if Lightfall will fix all these problems, but tackling at least a few would be a great start.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
