Although it seems sometimes that Ubisoft is making it up as it goes along with theAssassin’s Creedfranchise, the interconnections between entries are one of its best areas of storytelling. Sometimes these connections are obvious, but sometimes a few pieces of the puzzle are required to figure them out.Assassin’s Creed Valhallamay be no different.

Darius is a fine example of this. While many may initially recognize him fromOdyssey’s Legacy of the First Blade DLC, his first appearance was actually inAssassin’s Creed 2. Ezio finds his statue while searching for the armor of Altair, and it’s revealed that he was posthumously honored as the first figure to use a hidden blade. The after effects of this play out in the aforementioned DLC, but it doesn’t end there. Darius takes and raises Elpidios in Egypt (Alexios or Kassandra’s child/his grandchild), eventually becoming an ancestor of Aya.

Aya passes his blade on from there to her husband, Bayek, and the events ofAssassin’s Creed Originsgo on to foundthe Hidden Ones. In a roundabout way, there’s clearly a “destiny” or “fate” aspect at play, as the hidden blade made it from Darius' hands to Cleopatra to Aya, but that also means one big thing: it doesn’t have to end.

The Legacy of the First Blade May Not Be Over

With Darius serving as a point of connection betweenAssassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, andAssassin’s Creed Origins, it seems likely that his character may have a small role inAssassin’s Creed Valhallaas well. Since he’s long dead then, unlike Alexios or Kassandra, his role may likely live on through his hidden blade.

With 800+ years passing betweenAC OriginsandAC Valhalla, though, there’s the question of how and where it might crop up. The simplest answer is that Darius' hidden blade (perhaps renamed as Bayek’s?) is a legendary item that is found in the game. But the potential influence of that is small. Another option would be that Darius' hidden blade has some type of puzzle, either connected to the Isu or Hidden One, that players can explore and see through the eyes of Eivor. This would potentially show how the blade has survived so long or has been restored beyond a relic (if it’s not just a relic).

It’s unlikely that Eivor’s hidden blade is Darius', but that doesn’t mean it can’t feature a bigger story focus. It’s within a realm of reason that Eivor has to retrieve it for the Hidden Ones somehow, while furthering iterating on the motifs and on-goings on the current stage of the Assassins. Of course, how and if Darius' hidden blade appears remains to be seen, but it would do a lot to push the three games into one trilogy. After all, while most Assassin’s Creed sub-trilogies and collections are only a few hundred years apart at most,Valhallacomes long afterAssassin’s Creed Odyssey.
