Summary

DespiteCyberpunk 2077falling so low with its awful state at launch in 2020, those who have stuck with the game for the last three years may now feel like they’re on top of the world. With the 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion now available, interest in CD Projekt Red’s futuristic action RPG is gaining momentum as the game has never felt better to play.Phantom Liberty sets a new standard for RPG DLC, and many players are singing update 2.0’s praises, because to many,Cyberpunk 2077finally feels like what it promised to be back when it was in development. There may be a few lingering glitches here and there, but the game has quite literally changed for the better.

Phantom Liberty in particular may be a standalone DLC, but there are particular pieces of it that may be best enjoyed with proper context. While Johnny Silverhand does his best to catch up new players if they jump into Dogtown right away, there are important aspects that will always make more sense if fans play a little bit of the base game first. Appearances ofCyberpunk 2077NPCs like Mr. Handsare a rather notable example, though many of these characters have had their interactions written in such a way that it won’t alienate many fans. One in particular, though, won’t make sense unless players have experiencedCP2077in detail already, and that’s the appearance of Mr. Blue Eyes, who may have something to do with Project Orion, the upcomingCyberpunksequel.

Mr. Blue Eyes Appears in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

It’s a rather small appearance, but the elusive Mr. Blue Eyes can be found inCyberpunk 2077:Phantom Liberty. During themain story quest The Killing Moon, V will eventually reach the objective “take the elevator up to the roof.” This will lead the mercenary passed an overhanging observation deck, where a few NPCs can be seen looking down at V from up these windows, and one of them is none other than Mr. Blue Eyes himself. In order for him to even be noticed, however, players need the right cyberware to zoom in on him in order to scan him to confirm this.

Players just starting withCyberpunk 2077:Phantom Libertywill likely have no clue who this NPC is, and will almost certainly skip over him for the sake of getting the story quest done. However, the interesting thing is that even those who have made their way through the base game don’t have any clue as to who Mr. Blue Eyes is, as the character is an enigma inCP2077’s story. Just like in the DLC, he remains a character in the background that fans can find, and that’s it.

Yet, he serves as an important figure in the overall lore of Night City, andCyberpunk 2077as a whole. In one of the game’s endings, he’s V’s employer for the time being, hiring the merc who became rather famous in Night City for a dangerous job. Mr. Blue Eyes was also the person who helped prepare Songbird’s flight to the moon. However, his actions are all that’s really understood, and none of the “why” or “who"questions many have about Mr. Blue Eyes have been answered, even in the Phantom Liberty DLC.

With such a large presence behind him, including playing a prominent role inone ofCyberpunk 2077’s endings, it’s a bit strange that he’s such a non-character. The constant inclusion of Mr. Blue Eyes hints so much about him, yet gives away so little. However, there’s still a chance that fans can find answers, which is in the in-development sequel, Project Orion. As Mr. Blue Eyes is most notably found inCP2077’s ending, he may play a role in the franchise’s future, rather than the present.

Cyberpunk 2077:Phantom Libertyis available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
