It had elements from numerous titles, with inspiration seemingly taken from titles such asDayZandThe Divisionin what appeared to be an open-world MMO. This led to everyone having different expectations for the game which would always be difficult to meet, which were further affected byThe Day Beforefacing numerous delays. Some even felt the entire game was a total scam. Ultimately,The Day Beforelaunched to overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam, but hopefully, this patch is a start to improving the state of the game.
Developer Fntastic confirmed the update’s release onSteam, claiming that it “addressed the most critical issues with the game and improved overall performance.” Most of the changes are quite generic, with improvements made to first and third-person shooting performance, as well as improved net code performance. However, there are some specific changes that should improve the experience of playingThe Day Before. Among these fixes are an increase to infected spawns, as well as task rewards changing from 1000 to 5000 Woodcoins.
While it’s always good to see a developer earnestly attempt to appease gamers post-release, in the case ofThe Day Before, it may not prove to be enough.The Day Beforeis not an open-world MMOas many had thought pre-release, and ultimately it will probably never become that. Even with constant updates, it’s likely to always be an extraction shooter, barring a huge change in direction. That said,The Day Beforewill remain an interesting prospect to watch going forward.

Just recently,The Day Beforeshut down its Discord after a surge of angry players, showing how any road to redemption for this game will likely be a long process. However, it isn’t impossible. Even lately, the much-criticized title upon releaseCyberpunk 2077has seen a resurgence in praise due to CD Projekt Red’s long-standing commitment to finally fulfilling player expectations. Of course, developer Fntastic is likely operating with a fraction of the resources of CD Projekt Red. Still, it’s this level of dedication that will be required ifThe Day Beforeis to reach its potential.

• Improved game and net code performance
• Improved the mechanics of the spawning of the infected to increase the chance of encountering them in the world
• Improved first and third-person shooting performance

• Adjusted the amount of ammo that can be found from the dead infected
• Added option to change the keys for tilting the character left and right
• Fixed various ways of duplicating items
• Fixed that the alarm sound could play indefinitely
• Fixed that one of the backpacks could disappear when swapping backpacks
• Fixed that after going to the main menu from the tutorial, it was possible to appear in Leonard’s room while the current quest target was already out of the room
• Fixed that GPS Map control was not performed with the same buttons as character control
• Small fixes to the Storage to prevent items from being lost
