Many Battle Royale games get constant, new updates to keep players coming back and invested in whatever new features will be added to their favourite game.Fortniterecently unveiled its third chapter,Apex Legendsreleased its eleventh season andCall of Duty: Warzonekept up with the pack by publishing its Pacific update.
The issue with these consistent updates though is that they can cause more than a few problems for the gamers simply trying to play the games. The Pacific update forCall of Duty: Warzone, for example, which brought thenew tropical island map Caldera to the game, has also brought about major graphical issues. Developer Raven Software acknowledged these bugs as soon as they were reported, yet with the addition of this file name change, there seem to be more bugs than were first anticipated.

Upon installing the latest update forCall of Duty: Warzone, one player found that their Xbox labelled the game file as iw8 ship. As more players found a similar problem within their game’s file name, confusion ran amok within theCall of Duty: Warzonecommunity as many sought to find why the file name to their game had been changed. At this time, there hasn’t been an official response from Raven, though the issue hasn’t stopped players from logging in.
Posted on Reddit, user u/CoreVortex brought the issue to light. In the screenshot, the game that is installing is clearlyCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, the title that initially introducedWarzone, yet the file name is iw8 ship. The comments underneath the post assure the user that iw8 is the game engine and that the name is a bug that coincides with the changes being brought about after the release ofCall of Duty: Vanguard. Though some players are glad that the name change is merely a bug, others took this chance to raise other issues withCall of Duty: Warzone. One commenter wrote that due to this update they had to reinstall all singleplayer and multiplayer content, while another user expressed their problem with thehuge file size ofCall of Duty: Warzone.
The name change, iw8 ship, also caused some to see the lighter side of things. One fan had an interesting theory that now a ship would come to collect allCall of Duty: Warzone, players, with each having to wait their turn. Another thought simply that the name change was in some way related to Shipment, one ofModern Warfare’smost famous maps. Whatever theories players have come up with, the simple truth appears to be much more boring, with the file name only occurring as a mistake caused by a bug.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
