Since launch, fans have been calling for Infinity Ward to add map voting toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. Map voting has been a feature in theCall of Dutyfranchise for years, giving fans the chance to skip maps that they don’t like and mainly play on maps they enjoy. Infinity Ward doesn’t seem interested in adding map voting toModern Warfare, so one Reddit user has come up with a smart alternative.
Reddit user TheHeadache420 has suggested thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfareadd a map filter system to the game so players can avoid maps they dislike. They make the argument that manyModern Warfareplayers just stick toplaylists like Dirty Old Boat Houseto avoid maps they dislike, but that means missing out on some of the middle-size maps that they may actually want to play.

LettingModern Warfareplayers filter out maps that they don’t want to play addresses the reason why Infinity Ward hasn’t added map voting to the game. Previously, it’s been revealed thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfaredoesn’t have map votingbecause data shows that players simply back out of lobbies if the map they vote for doesn’t win. The map filter system would give players no reason to back out of any lobbies because they will only ever get into matches on maps that they want to play on.
On paper, this seems like a smart alternative toCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehaving map voting, but it could create some matchmaking issues. For example, those who don’t bother using the filter system may find it difficult to find fully-populated matches on thePiccadilly mapsince that map is easily one of the least popular in the game.
While some fans would prefer a map filter or map voting system inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, they shouldn’t hold their breath. Infinity Ward does not seem interested in adding anything like that to the game. Similar toModern Warfare’s Skill-Based Matchmaking, it’s just a controversial design decision that fans will likely need to accept.
A map voting or map filter system may be unlikely, but there’s still plenty forModern Warfarefans to look forward to in future updates.Modern WarfareSeason 2is well underway, and it promises to add more maps, modes, weapons, and more in the coming weeks.
