BeforeCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarSeason 1, players were having trouble with the Flak Jacket perk. Anyone who used the perk was virtually immune to explosives, which started to disrupt the balance of the game.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarSeason 1 reported that the perk had been adjusted, but this fan disagrees.

In theSeason 1 patch notes forCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War,the game received a nerf to the Flak Jacket perk. The goal of the perk is to reduce incoming explosive damage, but in its default state, a player could take several grenades directly before dying. Although the patch notes claim a nerf was implemented, new footage is pushing hard evidence that the developer may not have fixed the problem permanently.

In a video posted to Reddit by Momisch420, the player is in an intense gunfight on themap Nuketown inCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.The player is firing launchers at a target that is hiding inside of the blue house’s garage. Each time the launcher fires a shot, the armor emblem pops up, alerting the player that the flak jacket has saved their target’s life. While this normally just requires a second shot, the player’s armor has already returned, forcing the launcher player to change their tactics. In total, it takes 4 launcher shots to kill a single flak jacket user in a hardcore game mode, even though these are weapons designed to bring down tanks and aircraft.

Simply put, there is an immediate balance problem still present in the clip. In the title, the player points out that this is after theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarSeason 1 nerf, which means that this encounter happened with the fixed version of the perk.

While it does break realism, some fans believe there is a purpose to the perk being so strong. From avoiding instant death through blind grenade throws to stopping players from camping with a rocket launcher, there are some justifications for the perk’s current balance.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waris a game of many tactics, and the perks are supposed to reinforce players against certain strategies.

Despite this, there are still many players who are calling for another nerf. It is unknown ifCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’sdeveloperwill put any more effort towards fixing the perk. Until then, the community remains divided over the anti-explosive resistance of this controversial loadout option.
