It’s been a tough stretch as of late for BioWare as its latest release,Anthem, failed to resonate with fans. While the company has reaffirmed its commitment to the game through a major overhaul down the road,Anthemwas largely seen as a continuation of the disappointment streak the studio was on from other recent titles likeMass Effect Andromeda. While thegame may have hurt the brand, it certainly didn’t extinguish its popularity. With BioWare searching for a big win with fans, it looks like the developer may be turning back to its fan-favoriteMass Effectfranchise.
Recently, BioWare posted a new job opportunity located in its Edmonton office. As detailed in the post, the Technical Director will be the most senior engineering lead on the next major title of one of BioWare’s most prestigious franchises. While the post in no way name drops any IP such asMass Effect, it’s easy to speculate based on what the developer is currently working on.

It’s highly unlikely that this job listing is referencingDragon Age 4as that game has previously been announced so the need for secrecy is quite low. The same can be said forAnthem. While the game is likely on maintenance mode for now having recently given up on the seasonal updates, BioWare previously announced that it isn’t giving up on the game and is insteadcompletely redesigning the experience. Therefore, it’s also likely that any job listing associated withAnthemwould have clearly indicated it in the description.
The post doesn’t specifically say anything about a new IP either so that simply leaves theMass Effectfranchise as the most realistic choice. The speculation fits in line with recent events as BioWare also always maintained that it isn’t done withMass Effect. In fact, a few months ago, a new report came out that formerAnthemProducer, Mike Gamble, had shifted over to the directors chairfor a brand newMass Effectgame. Earlier in January, BioWare’s Twitter account even dropped a new teaser out of no where referencing Mass Relays and the opening crawl from the first game.
While a return to theMass Effectfranchise in general should please longtime fans, many still continue to hold out hope that aRemastered version of the first three gamesis also planned. It’s entirely possible that the heavily requested game could be on the way as the development could be handed over to a studio with a proven track record with ports and remasters such as BluePoint. That way, BioWare remains free to work on other games likeDragon Age 4, theAnthemoverhaul, and the possibleMass Effect 4.
