Summary

Long-time players ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionmay have come across a familiar conversation amongNPCs mumbling about running across some “horrid creatures”, those being Goblins. They may not be the toughest enemies in the game, though they have strength in numbers, and those numbers can tally up to 30 of them in a single location!

Goblins may be nasty, but, sometimes, they carry handy loot and other things that can be flogged off for cheap at the local merchants. So, for those itching to delve into a bit of Goblin hunting, instead of simply raiding hot spots with goblin activity, why not tackle quests that throw the green-skinned into the fray?

Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion - front gates of the Imperial City Arena at night

1Arena

A Grand Champion Can Make A Sweet Amount Of Cash From Fighting Goblins

Should a player have reached the prestigious title of Grand Champion of the Imperial City Arena, speaking with Ysabel Andronicus will result in her coming up with a new idea:fighting monsters. At levels 1-5, one can fight two boars and a Goblin Skirmisher. Meanwhile, at levels 6-8, either a single Goblin Berserker or a pair of them (alongside a Troll) can be fought.

For low-level players, this is a great way to make some extra cash weekly. They pack a random weapon and shield that can be pilfered without restrictions after the match, and the wide amount of space in the Arena’s battleground makes it more than safe to fight against them without fear of serious harm or being cornered. At level 9 or higher, however, Goblins of any kind cannot be fought, so it’d be better to utilize this opportunity when available.

2The Desolate Mine

A Frantic War Against A Pack Of Goblins Makes For An Intense Quest

The Fighters Guild questline has some fairly standard contracts to get the ball rolling, though “The Desolate Mine” can be tricky for new players. Firstly, a stash of weapons needs to be delivered to the titular cave. Once there, a Redguard will collect the bow, while an Orc and High Elf request a war hammer and claymore, respectively. They make it more than obvious what their preferences are, and they’ll deliver a much better performance.

From that point onward, there’s a frantic rush into the mines to wipe out the infestation of Goblins there. Most of them hold regular, low-grade weapons, yet they guard a lot of lootable bits to plunder. Keeping the troops alive is a must for the biggest possible payout, and these grimy creatures have set up adevious log trap that can kill them if it’s not sabotagedor triggered before they run into it. Otherwise, those looking for some Goblin-bashing action in confined quarters are going to get a kick out of this.

A Random Selection Of Goblins Will Be Present, Promising Entertaining Fights

This is technically a part of the Main Quest, yet the location that shares the name of the quest is rife with the sniveling monsters. Alongside some undead and a Lich (that will serve as the Ayelid ruin’s boss) guarding a Great Welkynd Stone, a pack of Bitterfish Tribe Goblins will be present here as well. They’re not tied into it in any way and are more of an obstacle than anything.

Some will cast Shield spells and pack Dwarven or Elven weapons, which can sell for a pretty penny. Others may bring ineffective Iron or Steel weapons, making them much easier opponents to kill. The chances of a spell-casting, monster-summoning Goblin Shaman are completely random, though one can expect some decent loot from those when defeated. Luckily, the environment is spacious enough for sneaky types tohide in the shadows and skewer them with arrows from afarif not simply barging in with a big weapon.

Corrick Northwode lamenting about the death of his wife to the player

4Revenge Served Cold

Battering A Pack Of Goblins To Avenge A Murdered Wife Is Nothing Short Of Sweet Justice

At Harm’s Folly, located partway between Cheydinhal and Bruma, a man named Corrick Northwode islamenting the death of his wife. The culprits were none other than a pack of Goblins in Exhausted Mine. He implores the player to recover the Jade Amulet his deceased wife once wore from the murderous monsters (a player can hand it over and finish the quest early if collected before starting, resulting in an amazed response).

Exhausted Mine is a linear romp across three floors, each peppered with Goblins. There are many opportunities to pull off some sneak attacks upon the unsuspecting foes if one is stealthy enough. Plus, the numerous ore veins and chests available should offer generous treasures along the way. Oddly, the Goblin Netherboss carrying the necklace will be a weak opponent if the player is at level 1-7, stronger at 8-12, and yet slightly less dangerous with less impressive gear at 13 or higher! Either way, nothing feels better than smashing it into the ground to avenge a man’s other half.

Two brothers and a Xivilai fighting a pack of goblins on a farm while the player wields a dagger in Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion

5The Killing Field

A Showdown Takes Place On A Farm, Where Two Brothers Must Be Kept Alive From Incoming Goblin Hordes

This can be a tough mission to complete with the best possible results, though its tense encounters make it a great one. Inside the Chorrol-situated inn, The Gray Mare, an elderly gentleman named Valus Odiil can be heard asking about his sons. It turns out his offspring are off to liberate the family farm of the Goblins that chased them out in the first place.

They’ll arrive in a trio of waves. Keeping the young men alive is paramount for the best possible reward. The two brothers are experienced enough to fight, though the lack of armor makes them vulnerable. Healing and Conjuration spells, as well as a trusty steed to distract enemies, can be a huge help in this engaging endurance battle against a small squad of Goblins. Keeping both brothers alive will reward the player with a unique ice sword named Chillrend -perfect for Goblin-hunting, too!

A Few Different Options Are Available When It Comes To Stopping A War Between Tribes

Southeast of the Imperial City lies Crestbridge Camp, a group of villagers from the unfinished town of Cropsford. A war between Goblin tribes has put a halt to construction, and the Hero of Kvatch must put an end to it. The great thing about the quest is how many options are on offer.

The Rock Biter Goblins at Timberscar Hollow have stolen the Totem Staff of the Bloody Hand Goblins at Cracked Wood Cave. So,one can return the staff, or whack the Bloody Hand shaman. Alternatively, the staff can be used to zap foes, sold for a sweet price, or even dumped in any other Goblin cave to spark another war! Interestingly, Cropsford will gradually be worked on and finished after a month. A Reward Chest waits inside the finished town, offering weekly rewards. It’s all a stellar example of the developer’s love for additional details.
