As the release forBattlefield 2042steadily marches closer, so do various details surrounding the video game. Announced today in a press release, publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE reveal the official partners for the highly anticipated title.
The 17th installment in the long-runningBattlefieldseries,Battlefield 2042will not have a single-player campaign, with a narrative unfolding through multiplayer gameplay. Fans of the series got their first real look at the title viatheBattlefield 2042announcement trailer, which featured the game’s touted extreme weather and the now-legendary “rendezook” maneuver.

Today’s announcement reveals Xbox, specifically Xbox Series X, will be the official console partner forBattlefield 2042. This continues the relationship between Microsoft and theBattlefieldteam, which had previously done the same thing for 2018’sBattlefield 5. However, it’s currently unclear on how exactly the game will take advantage of the next-gen hardware, or what it means forBattlefield 2042on other platforms. For those who play on PC, Nvidia is the official graphics platform partner. The GPUs will support both Nvidia DLSS and Nvidia Reflex, granting PC players AI-powered performance boosts and low latency.
The press release also reveals Polaris asBattlefield 2042’s off-road vehicle partner, as well as Logitech for PC peripherals. Although the announcement of Nvidia as the official PC partner is likely much toBattlefieldfans on the platform’s chagrin, given Nvidia’s scarcity, that may actually change soon. A recent report suggests that Nvidia will beginincreasing production of its RTX 3060 GPU, which could signify the global deficit is coming to an end. In addition to supplies increasing, the pricing may be going down as well, as there are multiple reports of overseas markets selling the processor for two-thirds of its initial exorbitant price tag of $1,200.
Although the game isn’t due to launch for roughly four months,Battlefieldfans everywhere are jumping on the hype train.The fanbase flocked toBattlefield 4after the announcement ofBattlefield 2042, so much so that DICE had to allot additional server capacity due to increasingly long queue times. Despite releasing in 2013, with threeBattlefieldtitles released in the interim, fans have seemingly returned toBattlefield 4in droves due to it being the last game in the franchise with a similar look and feel in terms of weapons and gadgets.
Battlefieldfans may believe they have a basic idea of how the game will look and play based on the announcement and gameplay trailer, but the picture is apparently far from full if one prominent streamer is to be believed. Shroud has recently commented thatEA and DICE have much moreBattlefield 2042to reveal, and will almost certainly do so at the highly anticipated EA Play event next month.
Battlefield 2042releases on October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
