The GPU overclocking game has reached a new level with the latest world record set by renowned overclocker Allen ‘Splave’ Golibersuch. He was able to overclock the Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 beyond 4GHz, a feat that has been impossible to achieve till now with any GPU. Of course, normal cooling solutions would fall behind with this amount of heat, so the clock speeds were reached under liquid nitrogen, a common practice in the overclocking space. This achievement from Splave comes just a few hours after another overclocker reached 3975 MHz using an RTX 4090 from Colorful.

The Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 has not been released to the public just yet but professional overclockers have been putting it through the paces. It comes with an all-in-one liquid cooling system with a 360mm radiator out of the box. However, as is common with these extreme overclocking sessions, the default cooling system was replaced by a Kingpin Cooling TEK-9 Icon Extreme GPU pot designed to be used with liquid nitrogen or LN2.

After multiple tests from different overclockers, Allen Golibersuch, better known as ‘Splave,’ was able to break the 4GHz barrier for the first time ever, achieving a new world record. The ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 was able to pass the GPUPi 32B 3.3 test at 4005 MHz as well as the GPUPi 1B 3.3 test at 4020 MHz. Splaveshared the achievement on his Instagram@splaveoc calling it “No big deal,” once again proving that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 is the undisputedking of consumer graphics cards.

In the race to break the 4GHz GPU clock speed barrier, last week, Splave was able to reach a clock speed of 3,945 MHz with the same card, but his record was broken by another overclocker named Cens who was able to take the Colorful 4090 iGgame Lab to 3975MHz on LN2. He shared his success on Twitter along with screenshots of CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and GPUPi 3.3.3. Just hours after Cens benchmark, Splave revealed that he had broken the 4000 MHz barrier with his ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090, which now seems to be thebest RTX 4090 GPUfor overclocking, even better than Asus’ ownalready overkill ROG Strix 4090.

For those unaware, GPUPi calculates the value of the mathematical constant Pi in parallel by using the BPP formula and optimizing it for CUDA-capable devices to 32 billion and two 1 billion decimal places. These calculations stress the GPU making it reach extremely high temperatures, hence the liquid nitrogen.

Prior to the new world record of an impressive 4GHz+ clock speed set by the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090, another 4090 was the reigning champion. A team of overclockers from Greece called OGS managed topush the GALAX GeForce RTX 4090 HOF graphics card to 3825 MHzin November of last year. It was three years ago that the 3GHz barrier was broken by a GALAX GeForce RTX 2080 Ti HOF OCLab Edition graphics card.
