Among the most interesting ways Respawn Entertainment promotes a new season ofApex Legendsis the Stories from the Outlands series of shorts. Each new season ofApex Legendsintroduces a new legend, who gets a Stories from the Outland trailer explaining their origin story and motivation for joining the Apex Games. Sometimes, the developers also release Stories from the Outlands shorts mid-season whenever a special event or heirloom item is announced for an already in-game legend.

Usually, these Stories from the Outlands trailers are animated short films that delve into the lore of theApex LegendsandTitanfalluniverse. Many of these animated shorts contain subtle hints and details that can easily be missed by viewers that aren’t entirely familiar with this lore. Most casualApex Legendsplayers simply indulge in the game’s competitive aspects without caring about the lore or haven’t played theTitanfallseries. Both games share the same universe and are connected in their story.
7Voidwalker: Wraith’s Voices From The Void
Wraith inApex Legendsis a legacy character that has been in the game since its launch. Her passive ability is called “Voices From The Void”. In-game, this translates to Wraith players hearing a voice that warns them of nearby danger.It’s very clearly indicated in the Voidwalker Stories from the Outland Short that these are warnings from Wraiths from different dimensions.

6Fight Night: Wattson’s Grandmother Is Pathfinder’s Creator
Pathfinder is another legacy character in Apex Legends. He’s been around since launch day and is also a fan-favorite because of his friendly robot quips. Most of these quips mention someone he refers to as “his creator”. Pathfinder joined the Apex games in order to find and meet this person.

His creator turns out to be Dr. Amelie Paquette, Wattson’s (Natalie Paquette) grandmother.
5A Promise: Horizon Lived On Olympus
Horizon was added toApex Legendsin Season 7. Her Stories From The Outland trailer was titled “A Promise”. In this trailer, Horizon is pushed into a black hole by Dr. Ashleigh Reid (Or Ash, as we find out later) and separated from her son. She travels to space on a voyage to recover crystals that could save her planet from a cataclysmic energy crisis.

It’s also revealed that she lived with her son in Olympus, the map that was added toApex Legendsduring the same season. It is revealed that Olympus was planned to be a city with posh residences for the richest people in the galaxy and its construction had a huge role to play in causing the energy crisis Horizon is trying to solve in the Stories From The Outlands Trailer.
4Gridiron: Bangalore’s Encounter With A Titanfall 2 NPC
The Gridiron Stories From The Outlands short was released in Season 11.With Ash arriving as a playable legend, Season 11 was full of Titanfall 2 references and one of them was in the Gridiron short with Bangalore.
The short film starts with Bangalore getting separated from her brother Jackson while fighting at the frontier as an IMC soldier. While she’s calling out to her brother, a mysterious pilot appears from the fog. Many players thought this was Titanfall 2’s protagonist, Jack Cooper. But each pilot in Titanfall 2 has a helmet with a visor that has a unique design and this one wasn’t the design on Jack Cooper’s helmet. An NPC pilot in Titanfall 2 called Droz Witt wears a similar helmet, so it is very likely that Bangalore encountered him during the frontier war.

3Ashes To Ash: Ash’s Titanfall 2 Retcon
Ash is a longstanding character that serves asa major connection betweenApex LegendsandTitanfall 2. As part of the Apex Predators, she was a boss fight inTitanfall 2because the Apex Predators are a faction of mercenary pilots leading the IMC militia during the Battle for Typhon. She later joined the Apex Games thanks to her connection to Kuben Blisk, their founder.

However, upon defeat inTitanfall 2, BT 7274, the player’s titan is seen crushing Ash’s simulacrum body completely. However, this is retconned in the Ashes to Ash Stories from the Outlands trailer, which shows only Ash’s legs getting crushed and BT 7274 tossing her into an abyss. This explains her return in the Apex Games.
2Northstar: Valkyrie Poster In Room
The Northstar Stories From The Outlands short introduced Valkyrie’s origin story to Apex Legends players, and it hasplenty of cool Titanfall 2 references. Valkyrie is Viper’s daughter, and Viper is an IMC mercenary working with the Apex Predators during the Battle of Typhon in Titanfall 2.
Amidst all the hype around the Titanfall 2 references, viewers tend to miss some subtle details. Among these details is a poster of a Valkyrie from Norse Mythology in Kairi’s childhood bedroom, referencing the inspiration behind her nickname.

1Family Business: The Graffiti On The Train Doors
Lifeline, a legacy character got her Stories From The Outlands trailer pretty late. In fact, this trailer could be considered an origin story for both Lifeline, as well as Octane because of their past together. The animated short premiered midway through Season 13, serving as an official announcement of aLifeline Town Takeover on Olympus.
The trailer begins with the view from inside a moving train that Lifeline eventually walks into when it reaches a station. The doors and windows of this train all contain graffiti that references several other legends in the game. The “I Love Sheila” graffiti is implied to be Rampart’s handiwork because of her evident love for her trusty minigun in-game. There’s also a “Big Sister is Watching” graffiti, also referencing Rampart and her own Stories From The Outlands short, The Endorsement. There’s an IMC graffiti along with a Salvonian crest and finally, there’s a graffiti that says “Pork Chops” referencing Mirage and his love for Pork Chops.
