Facebook’s community standards are clear that its users are prohibited from posting about the trading of non-medical goods, such as marijuana, also known as “weed,” on the platform. However, it is important to remember that inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons,weed refers to actual plantsthat players will find growing all over their deserted islands, and not marijuana.

According to several moderators of privateAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsgroups, Facebook has been taking down posts that contain the word “weed” and “trade” and has since issued a warning to the moderators of said groups about alleged breaches of community standards. Due to Facebook’s failure to accurately distinguish what weeds mean in these discussions, the admins of severalAnimal CrossingFacebook groups have advised players not to use the word “weed” in their posts, and instead use other synonyms such as “wildflowers” and “plants.” At the moment, Facebook still hasn’t made a response regarding the issue.
Of course, discussions about weeds amongAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans became common in recent weeks when the game introducedLeif the sloth, who is a gardening connoisseur in the game. To the uninitiated, Leif buys weeds for double the price, allowing players to make a quick buck. Apart from selling weeds, players can also use these plants to create several items in the game such as a row of hedge fences, which players can use as decoration on either their homes or in other areas of their islands.
Given that weeds are in abundance inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, some players would often leave these plants growing out of control on their islands. To solve this problem, player Tybat11 posted on Reddit about theirweed removal service in the gamecalled WeedCo. Interestingly enough, Tybatt11 revealed that their new venture quickly became a high demand service inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, which prompted them to hire new employees. After undergoing an in-game interview, players recruited in WeedCo. will receive an official-looking uniform.
