Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that the popular fighting video game seriesInjusticewill be getting a full-length animated feature film. This film comes off of the heels of the recent news about the upcomingBatman: The Long Halloween, Part Twomovie.
Injusticefollows the story of an alternate timeline in the DC comics world where Superman becomes a tyrant after the Joker murders his pregnant wife, Lois Lane, as well as their child. The video gamesInjustice: Gods Among UsandInjustice 2both tell this story through gameplay as well as cinematic cutscenes. This movie, however, would only be focused on the cutscene aspect and be a visual storytelling experience that the comic fans (who aren’t necessarily gamers) can enjoy.

InInjustice,Superman leads a charge against all super villains and eventually ends up harming his fellow heroes as well. Batman eventually leads a resistance charge against Superman as well as his followers. The heroes have to pick a side and it ends up with asuperhero vs superhero wareven with some villains picking a side. Right now there is no indication of what the story of the movie will entail. Fans have yet to see the prequel story told in the comics in animated format, and right now they have only seen the video games tell the story of the aftermath.
Fans have really gravitated towards the story in the comics as it goes in depth with the wayin which Superman became corrupt. We see plenty of heroes and villains get killed off as well as character arc development that leads right into the game. The prequel series added context to the game and was arguably on par with the game’s story in terms of quality as it was very dark. It’s expected that many fans will enjoy this movie when it comes out.
There are fans that are also waitingfor a sequel toInjustice 2so those who were expecting another fighting game may be disappointed. It was rumored a little while ago thatNetherealm is working on a new gamewhich may either beInjustice, a newMortal Kombat,or a new IP. Despite no official word on a new entry in either series, getting to see all of the best DC heroes and villains going at it in a film should be enough to tide over any eager fans for the time being.
INJUSTICE 2is currently available now for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC
