The young princess of Hyrule always kept an enigmatic air about herself. Between taking on different identities and residing in Ganon’s castle until the game’s final confrontation, Zelda always presented herself at a distance. On several occasions, though, she found herself helping Link fight against evil.

In theLegend of Zeldaseries, the titular princess surrounds herself with an aura of mystery. She’s proven to be good at hiding secrets. Even among longtime fans of Zelda, players may find new things to discover.

10The Phantom Comes from Spirit Tracks
In theSmash Bros. series, Zelda gains the Phantom ability. This armor-clad knight comes with a sword and a shield. Charging it will allow him to both strike the enemy and protect Zelda.
However, Zelda never summoned armor in the series. In fact, she was never an adult while using it in her own series. The Phantom Armor comes from the DS games, particularlySpirit Tracks, where Toon Zelda, as a spirit, can inhabit the armor and fight while inside of it.
9Became Link’s Sidekick Once
Speaking ofSpirit Tracks, even Zelda once found herself aiding Link throughout his journey. Losing her body to a demon named Malladus, Zelda becomes a roaming, disembodied spirit. As a ghost, however, she aids Link in a way similar to Navi, Tatl, Ezlo, Midna, and Ciela of past titles.
InSpirit Tracks, Zelda not only helps guide Link but also, as mentioned earlier, possesses armor. She’ll help Link fight and solve puzzles throughout dungeons. When she’s not fighting, she’s simply floating with her hero as he rides the tracks across Hyrule!
8Actually Good in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In theSmash Bros. series, Zelda has a history of being alow-tiercharacter. In fact, tier lists on the websites indicate that she’s among the worst characters in each game. This began since her debut inSuper Smash Bros. Meleeand carried through over a decade.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimatewas the first title where Zelda was made good. Based on her moveset fromSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, Zelda retains the same moves as before but with massive frame data improvements. As a result, she’s seenresults at tournamentsthat were never precedented by this character until now.
7Wears Pants in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
While nothing is sacred in the world ofSmash Bros., for some players a favorite pastimes is to look up the dresses of Peach, Zelda, Rosalina, and Palutena. This activity originates as far back asMelee. Even the developer, Masahiro Sakurai,touched on this action. However, he noted that detailing their design without censorship would raise the CERO rating in Japan.

As such, underneath Zelda’s dress is a pair ofwhite pants. These pair of pants are nearly invisible when fighting but can be seen when tilting the camera properly. Interestingly enough, the only series title where Zelda wears pants is inBreath of the Wild.
6Kissed Link Twice
Link got kissed twice when rescuing Princess Zelda. While a kiss from Peach is common in theSuper Marioseries, rarely does it end this way in theZeldaseries. However, Nintendo decided to throw a curveball for its players twice.
The first was inZelda II. In the ending,Zelda embraces Linkjust as the curtains fall. The player can see them move closer at the end. The second is in theOracleseries. After playing the complete adventure, via passwords, rescuing Zelda earns the player a kiss which puts Link in a daze.
5Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Design Comes From Two Zelda Games
However, Zelda’s design also takes cues fromA Link to the Past. While it’s a given sinceA Link Between Worldsis a direct sequel to that title, Nintendo made subtle changes to Zelda’s jewelry from the former to the latter title. Sakurai, who takes liberties with character designs such as theStar Foxcharacters, put his own take on the Zelda by using elements from both games.
4Competent Fighter of Multiple Weapons
InTwilight Princess, Zelda’s official art features her holding a sword. During the scene where Hyrule Castle is invaded by Zant, she appears holding her blade. However, she never gets the chance to use the weapon. However,Hyrule Warriorsallows Zelda to fight with the sword.
In addition to the magic spells she wields, she can also summon armor inSmash Bros. Furthermore, she’s wielded a bow twice. In both cases, she fired Light Arrows to aid Link in his final fight against Ganondorf.
3Dress Color Changes Color in the Original NES Title
The originalLegend of Zelda’s original art depicted the princess wearing a pink dress. However, upon rescuing her, she was not wearing pink. This is likely due to the NES' color limitations.
However, Zelda’s color actually changed. This was dependent entirely on what color Link’s tunic was. Wearing the Red Ring or Blue Ring would make her dress Red or Blue, respectively. Zelda gained Green, Red, and Blue color alts in theSmash Bros. series.
2Can Be Attacked During the Final Battle
During the final battle inWind Waker, Zelda aids Link. She’s able to fire Light Arrows atGanondorf. However, it’s entirely possible to attack her.
For whatever reason, Link can swipe at Zelda during the battle for the fate of Hyrule’s overworld. Attack her enough and she will retaliate. and Zelda will begin to fire arrows at Link instead.
1A Link to the Past Originated Zelda’s Lullaby
Zelda’s classic theme became a major feature inOcarina of Time. It plays when meeting Zelda in Hyrule Castle and is the first song taught to Link on his Fairy Ocarina. Playing Zelda’s Lullaby allows him to solve puzzles and open gateways marked with the Triforce crest.
While this theme has played in nearly every series title featuring the princess, it originated in the SNES gameA Link to the Past. When rescuing Zelda from Hyrule Castle, the song plays in its entirety. However, when rescuing the maidens, as well as Zelda from Turtle Rock, only the first part of the song plays.
