Summary

AsGrand Theft Auto 6’s official reveal trailer moves up the charts of the most viewed game trailers on YouTube, an unsuspecting mobile hit still claims the number one spot. Having dropped early last month, the long awaited first trailer forGrand Theft Auto 6lit up the internet and finally gave fans of the franchise a glimpse at the breathtaking world of modern Vice City and its surrounding areas.

Over a decade after its ever-popular predecessor,GTA 5,Grand Theft Auto 6’s in-engine trailer impressed with its visuals as it introduced both of its protagonists, Lucia and Jason. Previously rumored to be brother and sister, the trailer all but confirmed that they may in fact be a couple. The 90-second teaser quickly blew up on YouTube, swiftly surpassing the trailers of Rockstar’s past masterpieces such asRed Dead Redemption 2andGrand Theft Auto 5.Even trailers of other hugely anticipated juggernauts of the past several years, likeCD Projekt Red’sCyberpunk 2077and FromSoftware’s 2022 mega hitElden Ringwere left in the dust.

Now,Grand Theft Auto 6’s trailer has surpassed that of another super popular franchise on YouTube:Minecraft. With a whopping 168 million views, the trailer forGrand Theft Auto 6has become the second most viewed video game trailer of all time behind the trailer forSubway Surfers.A mobile game,Subway Surfersis an endless runnerwhich launched over a decade ago in 2012, following in the footsteps of the massive mobile success that wasTemple Runthe year prior. Since then,Subway Surfershas managed to maintain relevancy across mobile storefronts, and its trailer has earned a whopping 361 million views on YouTube.

It’s astonishing thatGrand Theft Auto 6’s trailer has been able to rack up nearly half ofSubway Surfers' decade-old trailer views in just a month and a half. ConsideringGTA 6’s 2025 release window, the trailer still has about over a year until the game is supposed to launch. In that time, it’s not hard to imagine the trailer snaggingSubway Surfers’number one spot. Especially taking into account the story, gameplay, and launch trailers that are likely planned forGrand Theft Auto 6leading up to its 2025 release, it seems probable that one of these videos is destined to rise to the top of the YouTube charts.

Since it’s only been a month and a half sinceGrand Theft Auto 6’s trailer, it may be some time before fans can expect to see the next one, though it’s more than likely to come sometime later this year. Since Rockstar historically tends to do its own thing with regard to dropping trailers, it wouldn’t be wise to expect the next trailer at Summer Game Fest, Gamescom, or The Game Awards.
